I play bold role in 'Karthik Calling Karthik': Deepika

Add to Jamespot

New Delhi, Oct 9 (IANS) Model-turned-actress Deepika Padukone has revealed that she plays a "bold" character in Farhan Akhtar's forthcoming production "Karthik Calling Karthik".

"'Karthik Calling Karthik' is a romantic thriller and my role is quite bold and optimistic in the film as opposite to Farhan's which is a very pessimistic one," Deepika told reporters here Friday.

Directed by Vijay Lalwani, the film is about a man who gets phone calls from himself. It is co-produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under their banner Excel Entertainment and Amit Chandra and Vijay Lalwani of Magic Beans.

The 23-year-old actress was in the capital to launch two new soap variants of Fiama Di Wills, which is also the associate sponsor of the upcoming Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WLIFW).

Deepika, the brand ambassador of Fiama Di Wills, also unveiled designer Sumeet Varma's preview collection for WLIFW titled 'The Life of a Swan-Swan lake'.

Asked if she preferred Indian or western wear, she said: "Personally I like Indian dresses, but I am ok with western outfits as well. While choosing a dress what I see is whether I am comfortable in it or not."

Once a state-level badminton player, the actress is also game for promoting other sports.

"I played badminton with Aamir Khan for a cause. (And) I will try the same way if I can promote other games like athletics and basketball too along with badminton," said Deepika, who was last seen in romantic drama "Love Aaj Kal".

Asked about her Diwali plans, she said: "I will be with my family."

Deepika Padukone will have two comedy films releasing next year

Add to Jamespot
Deepika Padukone has now moved on to comic roles with Sajid Khan's Housefull and Karthik Calling Karthik where Farhan Akhtar co-stars.

Her earlier roles included Chandni Chowk To China (action genre), Om Shanti Om (heavy melodrama) and Bachna Ae Haseeno (romantic comedy).

While she has wrapped the shoot of Karthik Calling Karthik, she is currently shooting for Housefull in London.

On the Housefull set, most people Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutt, and director Sajid Khan are closet comedians with a sharp comic timing. Deepika was, quite literally, at her wit's end. She says, "I was lost. But Sajid does one very good thing. He acts out every scene. I find it easy to follow what he wants. I'm learning fast. I've realised that comedy is the hardest thing to do. And all these actors are so good at it. Akshay has worked with the best comic directors. I'm learning comic timing watching him."

Says Deepika, "I'm very comfortable working with Akshay. I was looking forward to doing comedy. It took me a while to get a hand of it. Now I'm having a ball doing comedy for the first time. "

About working with Farhan in Kartik Calling Kartik with Farhan, she says, "Since I'd already met him on his chat show Oye It's Friday, we got along on the set immediately. Farhan makes people around him comfortable. Maybe it was because he's been there done it all…acting, directing, producing. He made me very comfortable. When Kartik started and got over, I didn't even realize. It was so much fun."

Saif-Deepika's 5 kisses: Highlight of Love Aaj Kal

Add to Jamespot
Nobody can hide the truth on the judgement day.Love Aaj Kal is finally hitting the big screens today. Kudos to the cast and crew of the film for completing the first mission by unleashing news bites at regular intervals to make sure that it stays in the news till its release. But, the next mission will be a daunting task, as the audience will take the final call.

Buzz up!
First, it was the news of Kareena Kapoor not being part of the film that hit the headlines. She stayed in the news till its release for the same reason. But why Kareena and not Deepika Padukone, the female of the film? Love Aaj Kal is her boyfriend Saif Ali Khan's first production venture. Moreover, he plays the lead role in it. So, everyone expected them to romance on screen. Saif too added fuel to the fire by declaring that he wanted Kareena in the film.

Deepika Padukone is another source of hype. Her kiss-and-tell attitude in spite of having a steady boyfriend in Ranbir Kapoor came as a big surprise. It's in fact one of the highlights of the film. At first, she denied the story of her five kisses with her co-star Saif, but she went into silence on realising that it would give the much-needed publicity. She didn't ponder much into the 'Kareena factor' as she knows deep inside that people will start talking about her once the film is released.

Saif Ali Khan has turned out to be another good publicity material, but all for the wrong reasons. It's natural that he surfaces every time people talk about Kareena but nobody expected that he would run into trouble for his avatar. He ended up apologising to the Sikh community for trimming his beard too short, as it's against their tradition.

Controversies and gossips apart, Love Aaj Kal holds the future of Saif and Deepika along with it. Saif has had his share of success in the past but he has not recovered fully from the failure of Tashan. Besides success, he has to prove with this film that he can carry off as a solo actor.

It's not a cake walk for Deepika too. The films that followed her debut Om Shanti Om turned out to be mediocre. The failure of the much-hyped filmChandni Chowk to China added more salt to the wounds. So, her heart must be pumping like never before, as the fate of Love Aaj Kal at the boxoffice, will determine her future in the film industry to a large extent.

Yes, hype do ensure a good opening but at the end of the day, only good films stand out. Will Imtiaz Ali's Love Aaj Kal do well at the box office? Will it live up to the hype and expectations? We will let you know the final verdict soon!

Love aaj Kal Movie Review

Add to Jamespot

The most anticipated movie of the year 'Love Aaj Kal' is an entertainer which might appeal to classes but not the masses. Burdened with sky high expectations, Imtiaz Ali could not recreate the magic of 'Jab We Met' but the film is a breezy entertainer. 'Love Aaj Kal' as the name suggests is a story of two couples, Veer [Saif Ali Khan] and Harleen [Simran] set in Delhi and Kolkata in the year 1965 and Jai [Saif Ali Khan] and Meera [Deepika Padukone] set in the present day in London, San Francisco and Delhi. And as the name suggests, the movie revolves around the idea that be it 1965 or 2009, the aspects of love do not change though the manner of loving someone might. Saif and Deepika are a modern day couple and things happen quite quick and casual between them, be it their first kiss or their break up where they throw a huge party to celebrate. Being the modern career oriented couple does not mean you just hit the party scene or hang around with friends, get drunk and go hanky panky without actually having feelings for each other. The 'Aaj' couple seem more direct and get kicks over their experimental kinks with their two year old relationship. The lingo used by them and the casual comfort between them reminds you of 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na'. Enter the 'Kal' couple, truly, madly, and deeply in love with each other, and committed to each other without talking to each other even once. Another extreme case but realistic as we are talking about 1965. Stories woven into one another unfolds the mystery slowly for us, though at one point Imtiaz does not get into the Veer Harleen track for so long that it makes you wonder what happened next in their love story.

Our giggly happy go lucky 'Aaj' couple have bouts of uncertainty about their love for each other and their capability rather incapability to move on with their lives and find love somewhere else until it is too late, literally, the day of Meera's marriage to Vikram [Rahul Khanna].Even after the realization of the undying emotions for each other 'Jai and Meera' avoid creating scenes at the wedding, only to call off the marriage the very next day. Now this is definitely not acceptable to an Indian audience, it does make sense that you cannot hold on to a loveless marriage, but has Imtiaz forgotten the fate of 'Humko Deewana Kar Gaye'? Then the movie gets into the 'Hum Tum' and 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' mode, the lovers separating to get settled in different parts of the world with absolutely no communication between each other and one day lighting strikes and so does cupid to unite the 'ones made for each other'.

Saif is at his confused best in the movie, his role almost looks like an extension of his 'Hum Tum' role or Aamir Khan's character from 'Dil Chahta Hai', the modern, practical, commitment phobic guy, looks like Saif's personal life image is kind of etched into the movie too. He does justice to the role of 'Jai' with great designer clothes, a carefree attitude and tongue in cheek humour. Deepika looks gorgeous and her wardrobe rocks, though the chemistry between Saif and Deepika is weak. Rishi Kapoor is awesome in his Sardar look and gives a power packed performance while Simran who plays Harleen looks like a younger and cuter version of Tabu and has just two dialogues to her credit. But all applause to Saif in the Sardar role of young Veer Singh, his dialogue delivery and body language is extremely accurate. One wonders why Rahul Khanna even exists in the movie ? A talent wasted, must say. The locations are scenic and beautiful, be it the UK, or San Francisco or Delhi, or the fort where the 'Kal' couple meet a la 'Veer Zaara' or the various historical places where Deepika works. Nothing can go wrong with the locations and the depiction of urban life as well as life in the sixties.

Imtiaz seems to keep his obsession with running behind moving trains intact, maybe he considers it a lucky charm after 'Jab We Met', but unfortunately in 'Love Aaj Kal' it reminds you about 'Dilwaale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge'. In fact another scene where Veer Singh gets into a quick conversation with Harleen's mother is a direct cut and paste from 'Dilwaale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge'. The music of the movie is very good and the songs apt to the situation. But too many film formulas rolled into one makes 'Love Aaj Kal' a Cultural Cocktail instead of a Cult. Worth seeing once as it comes like a good breakthrough after the Box Office disasters this year.

Deepika Lara and jiah in a movie with Akshay Kumar-ooh

Add to Jamespot
Did you know that Deepika and Akshay are making another movie together.

I found this on zeenews. Read the article below

Unlike other actors, who are reluctant about taking up multi-starrer projects, Deepika Padukone has firm belief in herself and no insecurity about her talent. No wonder then that she has signed ‘House Full’, which also stars sexy sirens like Lara Dutta and Jiah Khan as well as talented actors like Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh.
Directed by Sajid Khan, ‘House Full’ is a laugh-riot throughout. Talking about the film, Deepika said that her role is very meaty and interesting.

"You have to see the kind of script that has been offered to you before making a judgment around whether it is a solo heroine or a multiple heroine film", Deepika said to a news daily from London where she is currently shooting for ‘House Full’.

"There are certain scripts which can`t be complete without number of characters coming together; ‘House Full’ is one of them. Yes, the film is a multi-starrer but frankly, I don`t have a problem working in such films. How does my role fit in the film? Well, of course it had to be meaty enough for me to say yes," Deepika said.

Well, we hope it is meatier than the roles of Lara and Jiah or Deepika may end up repenting about choosing a multi-starrer project.

Love Aajkal gets a 4 stars rating, anyone seen it yet?

Add to Jamespot
There is a point shortly after the interval of Love Aaj Kal where you may feel the film might end up in a wedding scene when a wedding is stalled to reunite the parted lovers. Remember films like Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein? Thankfully Love Aaj Kal takes us beyond those situations. This actually ends up as an alternative and happier ending for Devdas with a more independent and intelligent Paro!

The strongest point of Love Aaj Kal is the extremely novel screenplay and narrative. It has very contemporary dialogues which work wonderfully for the situations and the characters. This film delivers high on quality of entertainment – enough to make you love it, or probably go for it all over again!

AKSHAY TAKES GOOD CARE OF DEEPIKA!

Add to Jamespot

Akshay Kumar's gallant nature was revealed in London when his "Housefull" co-star Deepika Paudkone was laid up with a bout of malaria.

He not only made sure Deepika was looked after, but also persuaded her to stay away from shooting.

While Deepika was resting, alternative scenes that didn't require her were shot.

"I'm recovering. I was bedridden for three days. And yes, I did return to the set on Saturday. I had to shoot. But I'm not sure whether it was the wisest of decisions, considering it was malaria," Deepika told IANS from London.

Akshay and Deepika earlier teamed up for "Chandni Chowk To China", which turned out to be a box office dud. But the film's failure hasn't affected their friendship.

"I'm lucky to be surrounded by gallant men. Whether it's my dad, Ranbir (Kapoor), Akshay, Shah Rukh Khan or any of my co-stars, I haven't so far encountered any ill-behaved men," said Deepika whose next release is "Love Aaj Kal".

Directed by Imtiaz Ali, "Love Aaj Kal" hits the screens Friday. And Saif Ali Khan, who plays Deepika's cynical love interest in the romantic saga, also gets high marks from Deepika, though she admits they aren't close friends.

In the movie, Saif plays a guy who doesn't believe in romantic love whereas Deepika is a die-hard romantic both in the film and in real life.

"He (Saif) also believes in love and realises it when he can't do without the girl. So I guess there's a romantic in all of us. It just needs to be tapped. But you need to experience that journey from disbelief to love, like I have in real life.

"So many times I advice people on their love life. I can always tell the difference between those who understand and don't understand the value of true love," she said.

Deepika Padukone fascinated by 'Love Aaj Kal'

Add to Jamespot

Deepika Padukone is ecstatic about her next release Love Aaj Kal. The movie, co-starring Saif Ali Khan and directed by Imtiaz Ali, is most special to Deepika since her debut Om Shanti Om even though she’s done two films Bachna Ae Haseeno and Chandni Chowk To China in between.

In an interview to a news agency, the actress enumerates three reasons why the movie is special to her and why the audience should not miss it when it releases on July 31.

“First, the film's storyline is such that any common man can relate to it. It's so real and, as you watch the film, you would feel that so many instances shown in it have happened to you too in real life.

“Second, the film has a universal appeal. Whether it's the younger or the older generation, all will be able to identify with the proceedings. Imtiaz has a knack for keeping things basic and very simple, something that the world saw in Jab We Met and Socha Na Tha. His trademark touch is prevalent in ‘Love Aaj Kal’ too,” Deepika is quoted as saying.

The third reason why Deepika is really ecstatic is the dialogues that promise to be as natural as they get.

“Dialogues are such that they are more of conversational variety rather than sounding scripted. Imtiaz wanted all of us to perform rather than plain and simple mug up our dialogues and rattle them down. Yes, there was a dialogue sheet given, but it was mainly for reference,” she said.

The film has Deepika playing double roles. She plays the Punjabi woman Harleen Kaur and also a modern girl Meera living in London.

“I'm aware of the huge expectations that audiences have from 'Love Aaj Kal'. Personally speaking though, the film is beyond expectations for me. I would rather call it a very special film,” Deepika said.

Love Aaj Kal in trouble

Add to Jamespot

Saif Ali Khan’s Love Aaj Kal has been in news for all the right reasons. The film has a hot onscreen pair of Saif and Deepika, the music of the film is top of the charts and the promos of the film are definitely hinting that Imtiaz Ali has got a winner this time as well. However, the film has hit the troubled waters due to Saif’s ‘Sardar’ look in the film.

Charan Singh Sapra, the President of Punjabi Cultural And Heritage Board has objected on Saif’s beard look in the film, reasoning it that Sardars do not sport a trimmed beard (as carried by Saif Ali Khan in the film). Sapra has also sent a memorandum to Saif Ali Khan, Imtiaz Ali and Dinesh Vijan regarding the same. Not just that, he also added that if the said look was not corrected, then, they (members of the Punjabi Cultural And Heritage Board) will be writing to all the major Sikh organizations to protest and stall the release of the film all over the country.

The co-producer of the film Dinesh Vijan and director Imtiaz Ali refused to comment on the issue.

Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone have kissed five times in their upcoming flick Love Aaj Kal, but suprisingly the Censor Board has passed them all.Talking about the kisses the Regional Officer of the Board, Vinayak Azad says, The film has been given a UA certificate. There are about five kisses in the film but they are not heavy-duty kissing scenes as such. They are much more toned down than what we have seen in other films. We ask a scene to be cut only when there it’s a prolonged kissing scene but in Love Aaj Kal they are cute pecks on the lips.”

Deepika Padukone painted the news columns red not only with her stunning performance in her debut movie ‘Om Shanti Om’ but also with her list of affairs with Yuvraj, Dhoni and the latest one Ranbir Kapoor.

Recently, she appeared in traditional dresses for the bridal photoshoots of ‘Bandhan’ magazine and must tell you, she looks even more gorgeous all covered up as a bride than barely covered as a sensational diva. One person who will definitely have ardeline rushing with these pics is Ranbir Kapoor who has already confessed his love for Deepika. Check out the latest scans of the gorgeous lady!

Not many have forgotten the spicy item number done by Deepika Padukone, in SRK’s flick ‘Billu Barber’. The song was a rage and Deepika will now again be seen in an item number. Only this time it would be a Telugu flick.

The movie which will feature this item number is titled ‘Love 4 Ever’ and is being directed and produced by Jayant C. Paranji under Laughing Waters Entertainment banner. Set in the backdrop of a grape garden, the film is a love story though with a uniqueness and has Ranadeep and Mridula in the lead roles. ‘Love 4 Ever’ will be made in Telugu as well as Hindi.
