Not doing 'Raavan' an amicable decision: Bipasha

Add to Jamespot

New Delhi, Oct 11 (IANS) Bipasha Basu, who now looks forward to multi-starrer comedy "All The Best", has dismissed rumours that her role in Mani Ratnam's "Raavan" was cancelled because her character posed a threat to the other actresses - Aishwarya Rai and Priyamani. She insists it was an amicable decision between her and the director.

Rumour mills were abuzz that Bipasha's role of Mandodari opposite Abhishek Bachchan in the film was suspended because her part was overpowering as compared to the other female stars.

"They were all rumours and only rumours. I am not a part of 'Raavan'. I was initially a part of 'Raavan' but Mani sir thought he couldn't do justice to my role... as to whatever he had promised me would definitely be in conflict with the actual story of the film once it is shot," Bipasha told IANS in an interview.

"So he took a call instead of being in an embarrassing position later on. He decided to tell me that and amicably we decided that it should not be done...hopefully we'll work together soon. So now there's going to be no Mandodari in the film," she added.

The film also stars Nikhil Dwivedi and Tamil actor Vikram.

Bipasha was in the capital to promote her forthcoming release "All The Best - Fun Begins" that is releasing Friday.

Distributed by Yash Raj Films, the laughathon has been directed by Rohit Shetty. Apart from Bipasha, it also stars Fardeen Khan, Mugdha Godse, Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn, who has produced the comedy.

" 'All The Best' is a situational comedy and a total entertainer. It deals with a lot of mistaken identities, people lying and getting into trouble," Bipasha said.

"My character is called Jahnvi who is married to Ajay in the film. She is a straightforward girl who is trying to run her life and family by looking after a totally rundown gym. She cons people to join the gym by lying because by the looks of it, nobody wants to join it," she added.

Apparently this is the 30-year-old's sixth movie with Ajay after "Zameen", "Apaharan", "Shikhar" and "Omkara".

"We also did a film together with Sanjay Dutt that was completed 50 percent, "Mr.Fraud" (shelved)," she said.

Asked how her co-star was as a producer, she said: "He is a very good producer. He in fact gifted me a Blackberry apart from giving me the money for the film. What's important is that at the end of the day he is a very good friend and a very good co-star.

"I've known Ajay for quite some time now. He is very entertaining and makes you laugh and he's a fabulous actor."

Bipasha says she agreed to do "All The Best" after she realised it had the same essence as "No Entry".

"I have done comedies before like 'No Entry' and 'Phir Hera Pheri'... And I really got the same flavour as 'No Entry' when 'All The Best' was narrated to me.

"I laughed throughout the narration and I thought if a film could entertain me so much on a narrative level, I need to be a part of it because I wanted to see it made, as it's hilarious," she said.

Apart from "All The Best", Bipasha's future projects include "Lamha", "Pankh" and Priyadarshan's next

Bipasha Basu took off to spend some quality time with boyfriend John Abraham, who is shooting in London. But before she did, he arranged for a beautiful house-warming surprise for her.

The actress, who has just moved into her newly done-up place, says, "John bought all the chandeliers and beautiful light fixtures that I had liked from all over the world and put them up all over my apartment. He had planned all this with my interior designer Ahsan and made the payments before he left for London." The actor is shooting for Abbas Tyrewalla's 1-800-Love Story in London.
All lit up
Bipasha is very touched by her beau's gesture, "John knew how much effort and time I had spent in choosing each and every item in my home after six months of research after going through many catalogs and videos from all over. All my chandeliers and light fixtures are from Italy and Spain, there's even one in the bathroom. It was amazing to see all the chandeliers lit up!"
John had bought the home accessories without her knowledge and with Ahsan's help. On July 29, the actress had her griha pravesh and that's when she saw all the trouble John had taken. "I was surprised totally. I am so excited with my gift. I have to plan now what to give John for his home."
Spending time with John
The actress will spend time with John briefly before flying to the US to join Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif for the Bollywood Meet And Greet show with fans in USA. "They are just appearances in Houston and Chicago and no singing or dancing is involved."

Desi Charlie’s Angels - Mallika, Priyanka, Bipasha!

Add to Jamespot

Imagine Mallika Sherawat, Priyanka Chopra and Bipasha Basu as the three feisty babes kicking the butts of baddies. This desi version of Charlie’s Angels may or may not be made. But the casting is surely spot on.

No Bollywood producer has conceived this casting coup. It is rather the people on Twitter.com who have expressed their wish to see the three sultry babes as the deadly angels in a desi action flick.

Mallika, who has been tweeting regularly ever since she got her one foot in Hollywood, wrote to Priyanka: “The Twitter people want us to do Charlie’s Angels. They said Bips (Bipasha) also so we need to get her on Twitter. Gul (Panag) has a strong support too.”

Priyanka, who has more than ten thousand followers on twitter, replied: “Sounds rocking!”

Contrary to rumours Priyanka and Mallika are not vying to outdo each other on Twitter. Rather they seem to have formed a mutual admiration society and are often seen complimenting each other.

Priyanka, for instance, has wished Mallika good luck for her upcoming film Hisss, whereas the hot siren has expressed her admiration about Priyanka’s continued rise to fame in Bollywood.

Bipasha's film with Billy Zane doesn't take off

Add to Jamespot
Why wasn’t Bipasha Basu available for the shoot? Did she act unprofessionally? Why was the scheduled shoot called off? Is she not keen to work with Billy Zane in the movie ‘Chimera’? The answers to these questions are not clear.

However, the fact that she wasn’t there on the first day of the movie’s shoot is true. Bipasha was supposed to report for filming on the 23rd July in Kodaikanal but there was no sign of her, neither was there any trace of Titanic actor Billy Zane. As a result, the shoot got cancelled for an indefinite period.

According to reports, it was because of Bipasha that Billy was asked to delay his trip and hence he didn’t come to India for the shoot. It’s been rumoured that the sexy actress had certain unresolved issues with the film; now we have no idea whether she will act in the film or not.

‘Chimera’ will be directed by
Daniel Silverman from Hollywood and arthouse director Tapan Saha. The film has been in the making for a long time but looking at recent happenings, it appears that the movie is at a standstill.

This is not the first time that Bipasha has had problems with an international film; a few years ago her
Ben Kingsley starrer was also put on the backburner for reasons unknown.

Such incidences are common when Bollywood wants to join hands with Hollywood; something or the other seems to go wrong. Monica Bellucci was slated to star opposite Sanjay Suri in a biopic on Sonia Gandhi whilst
Aishwarya Rai has been on the wish-list of the handsome Will Smith forever. However, the gorgeous actress doesn’t seem to have time to work with the talented Hollywood star. Even Deepa Mehta wanted to sign John Abraham and Rachel Weisz together for her ambitious project ‘Luna’ but is concentrating on other projects for now.

Nevertheless, there is an international collaboration for us to look forward to -
Mallika Sherawat’s film Hisss is complete without any hitches and is into post-production.

Bipasha’s the chosen one!

Bipasha, who’ll work with Priyadarshan for the first time, is excited about the film. “I enjoy Priyan Sir’s films a lot,’’ says the Bong beauty. “This film has a nice story and it has got amazing actors.’’ News also has it that Bips and Ajay get along famously. Reports say that Ajay recently presented his heroine a high-end mobile phone. Priyadarshan is also happy that Bipasha has been chosen to play the solo-female lead in the film. “Without giving away much, I’d like to say the heroine’s character has many shades. All actresses talk of wanting to do different work, but few rise to the challenge. Most want to tread the traditional path. I’m glad Bipasha has picked up the gauntlet,’’ says Priyadarshan.

Kareena replaces Bipasha in 'Race 2'

Add to Jamespot

Kareena Kapoor has agreed to replace Bipasha Basu in the sequel to Race.

Saif Ali Khan, who starred in the original film, confirmed that Basu has been written out of the script for Race 2 in favour of his real-life girlfriend Kapoor.

He said: "Yes Kareena will be part of the movie. We’re yet to flesh out the details. But Race 2 has to be bigger and larger than Race. Otherwise [there's] no point in making it."

The 38-year-old also praised directorial duo Abbas and Mustan Burmawalla for the "wonderful job" they did on the 2008 blockbuster.

I'll be this sexy, old grandma: Bipasha Basu

Add to Jamespot

The sultry Bong babe Bipasha Basu has come a long way. With a kitty of interesting projects under her belt, Bipasha says of the new age, leading lady of Bollywood.

“The film industry is male-dominated. Heroine-oriented films don’t have the masses coming in. We’re a nation of hero-worshippers. But, things are now improving. There’s no conventional Bollywood heroine anymore. You don’t have to be the sweet, wholesome girl-next-door to be a heroine. The modern heroine posesses many layers, some of them dark. Right from my first two films Ajnabee and Jism to Race, I’ve played women with dark shades.”

Known for living life on her own terms, she adds, “There’ll always be a group of men viewing women as sex objects and thinking any woman in a glamorous profession or wearing a short skirt is easy prey. I know how to handle these perverts.”

So is it time to better her PR skills? “No. It’s too late. I’ve missed the bus. I can’t pick up the phone and exchange pleasantries with important people. For so many years, I’ve been myself. And it has worked. There’s a lot of goodwill for me in the film industry. I’m liked for who I am. Even the audience likes me for who I am. And they are the ones who keep me going,” claims Bipasha.

A screen scorcher with oodles of oomph, Bipasha points out that there’s much more to her innate persona than what meets the eye. “I may be known as being bohemian. But that’s just an image. I lead a disciplined life. I believe in family values and in giving respect to the one I love. I’ve never hidden my boyfriend just to get more work. I don’t flatter people. Earlier, I found it so funny that the very people who asked me to wear short skirts on screen would advise me not to wear short skirts in real life. It was all very confusing. But I’ve always dressed in clothes that come within my comfort zone, whether it’s on screen or in real life.”

It’s perhaps Bipasha’s inner resilience that makes her equally passionate about the rights of women being violated in urban metros. “A woman like me is relatively safe and liberated. But, look at the number of rapes in the cities... Look at the rampant crimes being committed against women. Today, the parent of a daughter has much more reason to be worried when his daughter doesn’t come home on time. As a woman, you feel repulsed and
vulnerable.”

She’s quick to condemn the cold-hearted rape of two girls by their own father in the heart of Mumbai. “Oh, man, he should be killed without a second thought. Maybe these things are happening to many women. These seldom come out in the open. When they do they shock us. It’s a very embarrassing social structure to be living in.”

A self-professed romantic, Bipasha says of marriage, “Maybe when you’re in a long-term relationship as I am, marriage means moving into a new home. And you’ve to share a common closet.”

Known for his cool personal style, will beau John then take up more closet space? “Oh, John has very few clothes. His wardrobe has two ganjis, two track pants, three pairs of jeans and three chappals. That’s it. The rest of the closet will be mine. He isn’t into accessories like sunglasses and belts. When it comes to wardrobe management he’s absolutely hasslefree. I’ve endless stuff to put into my wardrobe.”

“To me marriage is important for the companionship in old age. Our kids will have their own life at 18. I left home at 17. When the work is all finished, the old man and I will go on all these lovely vacations with our life’s earnings. I see myself and my companion together as grandparents. I’ll be this sexy, old grandma. That won’t change. I’m sure I’ll give my granddaughters a complex. Don’t you think it’ll be cool to have Bipasha Basu as a grandmom?” she concludes with a grin! We couldn’t agree more.

Would Bipasha’s Lamhe get completed?

Add to Jamespot

Lamhaa in which Bipasha Basu is one of the lead actors seems to be in trouble. The reason is not too uncommon – a tiff between the producer Bunty Walia and Director Rahul Dholakia. They don’t talk to each other except when it is a dire necessity. The climax scenes need to be shot and moreover due to this work which is suffering, Bipasha is also unavailable as she is getting involved in other projects. There is question as to whether this flick would ever be completed or be shelved?

Lamhe is on the Kashmir Issue – a daring topic of the day and like the other political films it could have hit the BO if the flick was taken up seriously.

Bips has the best buddies on All the Best sets

Add to Jamespot
Bipasha would surely meet John when he is away on a month long schedule to London. And that’s the reason why Bips did not hesitate to stay away from the All the Best Bash that Producer and co actor Ajay Devgan wanted to attend. But because all films when they are being made have actors staying together like in an extended family, they seem to understand each others problems too. Bipasha is so enamored of Fardeen Khan who she says, “is a very philosophical person very well-read, intelligent, well-behaved and chivalrous. I found him a most impressive talker."
Fardeen has taken a fancy to Bips it seems and he wanted to even sponsor her belly-dancing classes. Ajay also gifted Bipasha a Blackberry.

It’s good times for Bipasha, especially because her Khar apartment is now ready too. She will shortly move in to the new place.

All the best to you, Bips, gal.

Bipasha flying high on workouts,

Bipasha was flying high when she showed how ladies could work out using Jukari Fit to Fly. This took place at an event on Wednesday. Bipasha is the brand ambassador for Reebok and she has won many accolades for her athletic figure so far. This fit to fly workout system was launched in collaboration with the New Entertainment Company - Cirque Du Soleil.
Right now I have just had a small taste of it but yes, when you do an hour-long workout like this, you actually will feel like you are flying. It's really fun," Bipasha said after trying Flyset.
Wow, I would love to use it, wouldn’t you?

Ajay Devgan’s generous gift to Bipasha Basu

Add to Jamespot

How far could a producer go in taking care of the wishes of the leading lady of his film? Well, he could at least gift a new mobile phone. This is exactly what producer Ajay Devgan has done for Bipasha Basu who has just finished shooting for Ajay Devgan’s comedy ‘All The Best’ in Goa this week.

Bipasha had worked really hard with most sincere efforts for Ajay’s film. She not only worked late at night and early in the mornings, she also kept the phone switched off during the shooting thus cutting off from everyone including beau John Abraham who has hurt his legs. Bipasha also agreed to do an additional role in ‘All The Best’ without extra charges. When Ajay came to know that Bips wanted a Blackberry phone, he thought it would be just the right move to show his appreciation for her dedication.
Says the actress, “Yeah, Ajay knew I wanted it. In fact it was he who got me interested in. It is actually a gift in appreciation for working long hours and changing at lightning speed between shots when we had loads of work to finish. Ajay is a fabulous producer and co-star.”
Bipasha is all ga-ga for her new phone and says, “I love it! I’m going totally crazy with it. Though I’ve no numbers on it and am trying to figure it out, I just can’t get enough of it.”

Katrina and Bipasha – Will the two ends ever meet?

Add to Jamespot

Katrina and John are great buddies in New York and because of the Katrina- Bipasha cold war and also because John and Salman cannot see each other eye to eye Katrina was a bit withdrawn from John on the sets of New York. But afterwards they all got on very well and they had a blast while shooting for the film. John is in no mood however in playing the pacifier between Katrina and Bipasha because he feels - Bipasha is a grown up, mature woman. So is Katrina Kaif. They are both experienced enough to sort out their own issues. I was there to play the character assigned to me in the film and not to act as a mediator between Katrina and Bipasha."
And Katrina also feels "I don't think anyone needs to play the role of a pacifier for anyone. We are all adults. If we feel the need to sort out our problems, we will do it on our own."
So that’s it.
Do you think Katrina and John look better on screen than John and Bipasha?
Don’t take me wrong buddies I am talking of on screen romance only.

Bipasha Basu is an avid learner. While she has learnt driving and swimming she will be learning belly dancing shortly. With her type of fitness she will do a good job at belly dancing too. It would be a treat to watch Bips doing a belly dance ain’t it?

And this is what Hair Stylist Sapna Bhavnani has to say on dyeing Bipasha’s hair red, "I dyed Katrina's hair red for her latest movie although it's just some streaks. But Bipasha Basu can even don the completely red haired look.”
Imagine what will add to the global warming, a hot red haired Bipasha belly dancing to glory!

No Tango for Bips

Add to Jamespot

Bipasha cannot dance any Tango nor any international dance form because of her difficulty in knees and legs. She had had a lot of wear and tear on her knees and legs with the wrong kind of shoes while she was a model and that’s now taking toll on her. Now she cannot be on high heels for long except for the red carper events. She has to pop a painkiller for the excruciating pain she has to suffer for the whole day. So when she was rehearsing for an Ad she hurt her knees badly and though now she exercises and wears the right kinds of shoes she has to be extra careful.

So although she loves to watch the dance show, So you think you can dance? She doesn’t even dream .of dancing those steps. Poor Bips

Who other than Bips could have played the African wifey to Ajay?

Add to Jamespot

Some exciting things are happening for the flick All the Best. In the film jay needs someone to play an African girl. They were in talks with Tabu and Malaika Arora but as things did not work out, Bipasha who is already doing a role in the film opted to do a double role by playing the African girl. Wow, imagine who’s her boyfriend, well, none other than Sanjay Dutt. Make Up Artists from Hollywood would fly in to put her make up on.

Who other than Bipasha do you think could have played the role?

The Style Diva Award For Bipasha – Her Look, Fab Or Drab?

Add to Jamespot

What do you think of Bipasha here? Really her look does not match the “Style Diva” award bestowed on her. The shocking blue color rarely accentuates her dusky complexion. Don’t mind me saying, why did she go so loud on her nails and her silver eye shadow. She is sort of screaming for attention. I don’t like that lip color with this blue dress either. Bips, this time does not move me a bit. The dress and the earrings both look tacky on her.

How do you find her gals?
