Women aged 40 and above are just as likely as younger women to meet new sexual partners on the internet, according to a new Australian survey.

Nearly 45 per cent of the middle aged women agreed to ensnare at least one new lover in a year.

According to study leader Deborah Bateson, a senior medical coordinator at Family Planning NSW, the internet ''seems to be a very useful place for them ... It''s great that older women are out there meeting new partners."

She conducted the research to see whether 40-pluses were able to negotiate safe sex as effectively as their younger counterparts.

''Three-quarters [of sexually transmitted infections] are detected in people aged under 29, but there''s also an increase in women aged 40 and above ... entering or re-entering the dating market, perhaps after the end of a long-term relationship,'' the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Bateson as saying.

For the survey, an online dating site RSVP, owned by the Herald's publisher, Fairfax Media, sent an email to female participants, directing them to Bateson's survey site.

The findings revealed that older women were more forthright in insisting on knowing a new partner's sexual history.

Nearly 59 per cent of the over-40s would ask about previous partners, versus 43 per cent of the younger women, with a similar discrepancy in willingness to ask about intravenous drug use.

''''The older women seemed to benefit from the maturity of years and asked those potentially tricky questions,'''' said Bateson.

However, 37 per cent of the older women were more likely to agree to sex without a condom, compared to 28 per cent of younger women.

The findings were presented at 2009 Australasian Sexual Health Conference in Brisbane.

New Delhi, Oct 11 (IANS) Bipasha Basu, who now looks forward to multi-starrer comedy "All The Best", has dismissed rumours that her role in Mani Ratnam's "Raavan" was cancelled because her character posed a threat to the other actresses - Aishwarya Rai and Priyamani. She insists it was an amicable decision between her and the director.

Rumour mills were abuzz that Bipasha's role of Mandodari opposite Abhishek Bachchan in the film was suspended because her part was overpowering as compared to the other female stars.

"They were all rumours and only rumours. I am not a part of 'Raavan'. I was initially a part of 'Raavan' but Mani sir thought he couldn't do justice to my role... as to whatever he had promised me would definitely be in conflict with the actual story of the film once it is shot," Bipasha told IANS in an interview.

"So he took a call instead of being in an embarrassing position later on. He decided to tell me that and amicably we decided that it should not be done...hopefully we'll work together soon. So now there's going to be no Mandodari in the film," she added.

The film also stars Nikhil Dwivedi and Tamil actor Vikram.

Bipasha was in the capital to promote her forthcoming release "All The Best - Fun Begins" that is releasing Friday.

Distributed by Yash Raj Films, the laughathon has been directed by Rohit Shetty. Apart from Bipasha, it also stars Fardeen Khan, Mugdha Godse, Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn, who has produced the comedy.

" 'All The Best' is a situational comedy and a total entertainer. It deals with a lot of mistaken identities, people lying and getting into trouble," Bipasha said.

"My character is called Jahnvi who is married to Ajay in the film. She is a straightforward girl who is trying to run her life and family by looking after a totally rundown gym. She cons people to join the gym by lying because by the looks of it, nobody wants to join it," she added.

Apparently this is the 30-year-old's sixth movie with Ajay after "Zameen", "Apaharan", "Shikhar" and "Omkara".

"We also did a film together with Sanjay Dutt that was completed 50 percent, "Mr.Fraud" (shelved)," she said.

Asked how her co-star was as a producer, she said: "He is a very good producer. He in fact gifted me a Blackberry apart from giving me the money for the film. What's important is that at the end of the day he is a very good friend and a very good co-star.

"I've known Ajay for quite some time now. He is very entertaining and makes you laugh and he's a fabulous actor."

Bipasha says she agreed to do "All The Best" after she realised it had the same essence as "No Entry".

"I have done comedies before like 'No Entry' and 'Phir Hera Pheri'... And I really got the same flavour as 'No Entry' when 'All The Best' was narrated to me.

"I laughed throughout the narration and I thought if a film could entertain me so much on a narrative level, I need to be a part of it because I wanted to see it made, as it's hilarious," she said.

"'Karthik Calling Karthik' is a romantic thriller and my role is quite bold and optimistic in the film as opposite to Farhan's which is a very pessimistic one," Deepika told reporters here Friday.

It is learnt that director Ken Ghosh wasn't happy with the earlier titles. Being a dance-based movie, the director finds this title apt and has finalized for the same.

Ken Ghosh says, "We haven't locked any final title as yet. And nor was Yahoo or Star as the film's title. We are still deciding for the same." Has Chance Pe Dance title been finalized? He says, "Not as yet, we will be finalizing it by end of this week."

However, a source from UTV maintains, "The promos and poster have been locked on the title of Chance Pe Dance."

The film stars Shahid as the dancing sensation in the film. It is all about a middle class youngster who goes on to become a music sensation. The problem arises when he experiences a misfortune and gets into dejection. Ultimately, he recovers and hits the track yet again. Justin Timberlake's choreographer Marty Kedulka and Britney Spears' choreographer Brian Friedman have trained Shahid for the film.

Deepika Padukone has now moved on to comic roles with Sajid Khan's Housefull and Karthik Calling Karthik where Farhan Akhtar co-stars.

Her earlier roles included Chandni Chowk To China (action genre), Om Shanti Om (heavy melodrama) and Bachna Ae Haseeno (romantic comedy).

While she has wrapped the shoot of Karthik Calling Karthik, she is currently shooting for Housefull in London.

On the Housefull set, most people Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutt, and director Sajid Khan are closet comedians with a sharp comic timing. Deepika was, quite literally, at her wit's end. She says, "I was lost. But Sajid does one very good thing. He acts out every scene. I find it easy to follow what he wants. I'm learning fast. I've realised that comedy is the hardest thing to do. And all these actors are so good at it. Akshay has worked with the best comic directors. I'm learning comic timing watching him."

Says Deepika, "I'm very comfortable working with Akshay. I was looking forward to doing comedy. It took me a while to get a hand of it. Now I'm having a ball doing comedy for the first time. "

About working with Farhan in Kartik Calling Kartik with Farhan, she says, "Since I'd already met him on his chat show Oye It's Friday, we got along on the set immediately. Mugdha Godse, who is currently shooting in Mauritius, is distressed about the swine flu situation in Pune, where her parents live. The city has recorded the highest number of deaths due to the pandemic.

The actress has been in constant touch with her parents and has been enquiring about their health and telling them about precautionary measures they can take to avoid contracting the flu.

Speaking from Mauritius she says, "I have been here for the last two weeks, and when I am not shooting, I am glued to my phone and the Internet. The swine flu epidemic has hit the city like crazy. Pune, has the highest number of swine flu cases, and it worries me. I have been talking to my parents everyday.

They've been indoors and only step out if they have some important work. They are taking all the necessary precautions. The city is on a bandh and I can imagine the intensity of the epidemic."

The actress is spooked by reports and images of people wearing masks and moving about on the streets of Mumbai, "I am coming to Mumbai on the weekend for my dubbing of All The Best. I also want to go visit my parents but they have asked me not to come, since it is very unsafe. They will probably come visit me once I am down for a longer time."

Yes, Kaminey is a smart and balsy film that brings Hollywood to Bollywood, reminiscent of the adventurism of Quentin Tarantino's action thrillers which catapult the viewer into the dark, violent world of crime and criminals, leaving you no time to blink or breathe easy.

More importantly, Kaminey is the first film which also credits its viewers with some intelligence. It demands your unbridled attention from the word GO and allows you to sit back only at your own peril. For if you aren't attentive and intelligent to figure some things out yourself, specially in the first half hour, you might be missing the twists in this sassy tale of twin brothers who end up hating and loving each other, all in a frenetic 24-hour time span. Of course, director Vishal Bhardwaj does tell it all gradually, but he presumes you'll solve the jigsaw without much of spoon feeding. And therein lies the power of Kaminey. It teases you with its smartness and constantly challenges you to keep pace with the breathless tenor of the drama that unfolds through fast cuts, dizzy hand-held camera angles and a dark, brooding ambience. Watching Kaminey is like sitting on the edge of a volcano which can explode any time. And explode it does!

Thematically too, Kaminey is a complete turnaround of the archetypal Bollywood script. You have the two brothers, but they detest each other. If Guddu, with the adorable stammer, prefers to live right -- he's the goal-oriented, peace-loving, non-violent common man types -- then Charlie, with the delectable speech defect, is hell-bent to get rich quick, any which way. Morals be damned. But one muggy day, the brothers find their lives turn turtle. Guddu must marry the maverick mee-Marathi-manoos politician's (Amole Gupte) aggro sister, Sweety (Priyanka Chopra) while Charlie, a small time gangster, must find buyers for the cache of cocaine which he steals from a bunch of corrupt cops. End result? Guddu ends up earning the ire of the rabid neta who cannot see his sister settling down with a non-Maharashtrian and Charlie enrages not only the crooked cops but an entire gang of drug smugglers headed by the wily Tashi (Tenzing Nima). The drama hits feverish pitch when the brothers end up with the wrong baddies and the only way to sort out the mess is to finally meet. Will Charlie give up his get-rich-quick dreams to ensure a happy end to Guddu's `fo fweet' love story? Will Guddu stop hating his twin for his errant ways and display some bhai-bhai emotion? Settle down for an edge-of-the-seat climax that brings Reservoir Dogs to Bollywood. Absolutely riveting stuff, with the camera going on a hitherto unexplored journey in Indian cinema.

Kaminey mostly draws its powers from the brilliant music score (Vishal Bhardwaj) and the innovative cinematography (Tassaduq Hussain) which

creates a whole new playground for criminals, thugs and goons to revel in. But it's the performances that leave you spellbound too. If Shahid Kapur brings alive two completely different characters as the wimpish Guddu versus the whacko Charlie, then Priyanka Chopra's Sweety completely reinvents the actor from glamour girl to earthy, fiery, unpredictable and impossibly in love Marathi mugli. Scriptwriter Amole Gupte (Taare Zameen Par) makes an absoultely dhamaal debut as the wily neta who is ready to sell his ideology (Maharashtra only for Maharashtrians) for a substantial sum of money. And newcomer Chandan Roy Sanyal is memorable as Mikhail, Charlie's edgy gangster buddy.

But eventually, Kaminey is a director's story. Vishal Bhardwaj not only gives you a crackling screenplay, brimming over with smart one-liners, he creates cameos that stay with you long after curtain call. Example: Priyanka's drunken seduction act, where she declares she loves Guddu more than Mumbai, Chennai, Thiruvanthapuram....Amole Gupte and Chandan Roy's childish caper with the gun as Bope and Tope, Shahid's `Fiderman' dance, the high-strung encounter between Charlie and Guddu, the Dhan Te Nan exuberance and the high-decibel climax. Truly, Kaminey's a heady vodka martini, leaving you both shaken and stirred. And no, don't even ask for the popcorns. You'll leave them untouched coz this one just isn't the regular-run-of-the-mill popcorn flick.

KAMINEY WON'T RELEASE IN MUMBAI

Kaminey fans have reason to frown as the multiplexes in Mumbai will be shut for three days because of swine flu. Even the Delhi premiere has been cancelled.

A source told, “Kaminey is not releasing this week and will incur a loss of 15 crores almost if it gets postponed. It is only in Mumbai that it is not releasing. Cinema halls will be closed because of the swine flu scare. The producers are very worried because they wanted to cash in on the long weekend as Friday is Gokulashtmi and Saturday is Independence Day. Also, multiplexes were running paid previews on Thursday night. Multiplexes are expected to open on Sunday or Monday.”

The spokesperson of Kaminey said, “Everything is on hold right now because of the multiplexes being shut down. We are not even sure of the press show.”

According to a reliable source from the film, the Delhi premiere has been cancelled and a screening with the cast has been arranged in its place.

When we called up Cinemax, an executive said, “We have no update about tomorrow. We are booking tickets for today and tomorrow’s shows. If the shows get cancelled then the patrons will get their money back.”

Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO of UTV confirms Kaminey will not release in Mumbai on Friday. "There is immense buzz and anticipation around the release of Kaminey which is clearly one of the most awaited films of the year. There is already a heavy rush for Paid Previews of the film nationwide and in US/ UK & Dubai. We are going ahead with the release of the film this Friday across the country and worldwide in 1200 screens. This will not include the markets of Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai following the directive given by the government. We look forward to release the film in these regions as soon as the cinemas are given permission to re-open. Being a corporate we are fully insured for the 2 day delay we are facing in these markets."

StarBoxOffice is awfully disappointed that Kaminey may not release in Mumbai this week and empathizes with everyone who will have to deal with boredom this weekend.

Two songs from Rajnikant Starrer Endhiran/Robot Leaked On Net

Rajnikant is fuming over the leak of songs from his movie Endhiran/Robot. Directed by Shankar, the movie was shot extensively in the Machu Picchu plains in Peru.

Two songs were shot against the backdrop of the Incas. Now a video of an entire song starring Ash and Rajni has been leaked online. It has got over 13,000 hits on YouTube already.

A source from Robot reveals that Rajni is highly upset with the leak and wants it taken off the net. However, since it's not a copyright infringement, the producers can't do much. The film has music by A R Rahman and the uploaded video has not one but two of his compositions.

The first video is shot in Machu Picchu while the other shows a bunch of dancers rehearsing on a up tempo song. The video is becoming increasingly popular and the producers are worried that the leaked footage might hamper the film."

The four-minute video has audio as well as visual clarity unlike some of the other footage of the film that was leaked earlier.

Ever since his blog was launched in April 2008, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been regularly updating it. From movies to his arguments with the media to social issues - he has written at length on various subjects. And now it may be compiled into a full-fledged book. "During one of my meetings with BigAdda.com the people that matter said that they have a desire to convert the blog and my posts into a book and release it. I would find that terribly embarrassing, but if they were to persevere, I would want to suggest that the book also contain some of the responses from fans," Amitabh wrote on his blog. The sexagenarian says he has received some very thought provoking responses and that is why he would like them to be included in the book if it ever takes shape. "I have found that during this long journey of ours there have been incredible inputs from those that have so liberally contributed to every blog of mine. Many among them have had a most lasting effect on me... I'm sure they must have on you as a reader too. "Some of the discussions and points of view have been so engrossing and valuable that it would be a pity if they are left out to dry. It would have to be a mix of several different categories - serious, intellectual, humorous, indifferent - so that there is an opportunity for some democratic fairness in their representation," he explained on his blog. Amitabh, who shares his thoughts with his fans regularly, refers to bloggers as his extended family.

SALMAN Avoids Aish On The Shoot

On Sunday, Salman Khan proved that he is Bollywood's coolest dude. A fact further highlighted by the fact that the situation he was in was enough to give the heebie-jeebies to the most seasoned playboys.

On one side, there was his former girlfriend Aishwarya Rai, whom he had such a torrid affair with that people can't stop talking about it even today. And on the other side there was Ranbir Kapoor, who has been on more than one occasion linked with Salman's longtime girlfriend, Katrina Kaif. To everyone's surprise, Salman was not the least bit perturbed.

The three actors were shooting for their respective films at Mehboob Studios all day on Sunday. While Salman was there for Veer, Aishwarya was shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish and Ranbir was shooting for Yash Raj Films' Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.

Suddenly, the unit of Veer heard that Aishwarya was shooting a stone's throw away. They, of course, were waiting with bated breath for Salman to lose his cool. However, preferring to stick to his chilled out demeanour, Salman was sprawled on comfy chairs outside his vanity van and was seen chatting with everyone in between shots. He refused to be disconcerted by the fact that Ms Rai, oops! Mrs Abhishek Bachchan, was around.

Surprisingly, Salman stayed away from the sets of Guzaarish even though Aishwarya was shooting with Bhansali, with whom Salman shares an excellent rapport.

While Salman gave a miss to Aishwarya, he showered all his attention on Ranbir. Salman and Ranbir decided to catch up by chatting for almost an hour while taking a break from their respective shoots. If sources are to be believed, the two boys also had lunch together. Salman continued to shoot till 1am for Veer.

Well, the show must go on.

Rahman won't attend Jackson tribute concert

Music maestro A.R. Rahman will not be attending the Michael Jackson tribute concert in Chennai due to a Hollywood project.

"The Chennai concert, which is a tribute to Michael Jackson organized by my friend, will be a great show. However, unfortunately I won't be present there since I have to complete my commitments and resume work on my Hollywood project 'Couples Retreat'," Rahman told reporters here.

The proceeds of the show, "Heal the World" organised by music director Praveen Mani, will go to autism awareness programmes and other allied projects.

The show, to be held on the King of Pop's birthday Aug 29, is expected to feature a multitude of prominent playback singers.

Recalling his association with Jackson, Rahman said: "When I met Jackson, he had asked me to compose a song like 'We are the world'. But sadly we lost him too early."

The 43-year-old who has won thirteen Filmfare Awards, four National Film Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe and two Academy Awards was in the capital for a concert in association with Phat Phish Records, to commemorate 50 years of Doordarshan.

"I am proud to be associated with Doordarshan. It feels great to be part of such a momentous occasion today when the channel is completing 50 glorious years," he said.

Asked about his studio in Los Angeles, Rahman said: "Right now the studio is not there. I am in the middle of getting loans sanctioned to start other things on the project."

Salman's special fan passes away

Salman Khan's London-based special fan Arvind Jain has lost his battle with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The 12-year-old, who had been battling with the ailment since birth, passed away on Sunday.

Final days

On a visit to Mumbai last year, the youngster had expressed a desire to meet his screen idol 'Salman. It was on his wishlist. He was well aware that time was ticking for him. Even though Arvind landed up at the actor's Bandra home unannounced, Salman had warmly welcomed him as reported ('A dream come true'; Hitlist, January 7, 2008).

It is learnt that for the past month Arvind was in hospital as his condition had deteriorated leading to several complications. Though extremely weak, he remained cheerful. He also had to have his foodpipe removed. Last week, his health took a turn for the worse and his heart stopped working.

"I could not believe it when Salman greeted me. It was a dream come true. I did not know what to tell him but he made us extremely comfortable," a bashful Arvind had said after meeting his hero. He was accompanied by his parents Mridula and Ashok Jain and elder sister Sushma. As he was confined to the wheelchair, Hindi films was a big source of comfort for him. And Salman Khan was his favourite actor.

When he came face-to-face with the star, he was initially tongue-tied. But gradually and thanks to Salman being so chilled out, he could actually start a conversation with his idol. The topic of conversation was Salman's films and his paintings. The star had told Arvind he could ask him everything he wanted to know about him. Besides Salman and Katrina Kaif, Salman's sisters Alvira and Arpita, his mother Salma as well as Malaika Arora Khan were present.

Says New Delhi-based family friend Lalit Bisht, "Arvind and his family were planning to come down to India this year. Arvind had fond memories of his trip last year."

Arvind, who was confined to a wheelchair, could not stand or sit without support and spent all his life in and out of hospitals. Yet, Arvind's family wanted him to live life to the fullest.

I lost 'Slumdog...' because of beefy look: Ruslaan Mumtaz

Ruslaan Mumtaz, recently seen in "Teree Sang", says he could have bagged Dev Patel's role in the Oscar winning movie "Slumdog Millionaire" if he had retained his lean look for the final audition.

"Truthfully, it would have been wonderful if I would have got to play the role in 'Slumdog Millionaire' - it was a fantastic film. But it's okay if I couldn't. I don't regret it," Ruslaan said.

The 26-year-old actor, who made his Bollywood debut in 2007 with "Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar", says he failed to get the role because he was called for the final auditions almost four months after the first auditions.

"When I gave my first audition, I was quite lean - the way they (makers of 'Slumdog Millionaire') wanted the character to be. But when they called me four months later for the final auditions, I had a beefed up look," Ruslaan said.

"I couldn't wait for 'Slumdog Millionaire' and I accepted another film called 'Jaane Kahaan Se Aayi Hai' where I had to play a superstar and I wasn't supposed to look lean. So, when the crew of 'Slumdog...' saw me in the final auditions, I looked different and then didn't cast me," he added.

Abhay Deol Learns Salsa for 'Ayesha'

From Salsa lessons to riding classes - Abhay Deol, who is back here from New York to shoot "Ayesha", is neck deep in preparations for the film that is going to hit the floors Aug 27.

Director Rajshri Ojha direct the delayed project of Anil Kapoor's production with Abhay and Sonam Kapoor. The film is said to be an adaptation of Jane Austen's novel "Emma", about the perils of misconstrued romance.

"I know there were rumours about the future of the film. There always will be rumours about everything. I'm taking Salsa lessons for my character from my choreographer Ashley Lobo. After this, I've to start taking riding lessons. So work is on full swing," Abhay, who made it big with "Dev D", said.

The actor admits he hasn't read Austen's novel as part of his preparation for "Ayesha". "But all of Jane Austen's heroes have some distinctive traits."

"Ayesha" would seem like a far more conventional film than the quirky off-mainstream character he has been playing. "You forget, I started my career with a romantic comedy. Imtiaz Ali's 'Socha Na Tha'," he said.

After "Socha Na Tha", Ali and Abhay drifted apart. "When he has a script for me, he'll tell me I'm sure. Both of us are busy with our own films," said the actor.

"Ayesha" will be shot in Delhi, Mumbai and Rishikesh. So Abhay will be in India for a while. "I've to go to the US back in October. I've other acting offers in Mumbai. But I'm in no hurry to sign. I'm right now focussing on my production house, besides 'Ayesha'."

Abhay wants to buy an apartment in New York. But the kind of money that he's offered in Bollywood won't pay for the home in the US.

"I've looked at a place that I like in New York. But it's too early to buy any property. I need to earn money first. That's why I'm starting my own production house Forbidden Films, so I can work for myself and pay myself with the profits and really get to know my market value. Everybody needs money. I'm not here to do charity."

Abhay has finished a script and he's now looking at a director for his first production.

Says a source close to Mallika, "It will be a celebrity -studded event where many special guests are expected to attend. Some of these will include her Hollywood friends like world-famous composer Yanni, film director Jay Chandrashekar, CAA super agent Emanuel Nunez, film director Jesse Dylan (son of musician Bob Dylan), Hisss director Jennifer Lynch and producer Govind Menon among others. Mallika has personally invited all of them to the event."

Shahid unhappy over `A` certificate for `Kaminey`

Chandigarh: Bollywood actor Shahid Kapur, who is looking forward to the release of his latest film `Kaminey`, is upset over the `A` certificate it has been given by the censor board.

"I am quite surprised with the decision of censor board to have given an `A` certificate to `Kaminey`. One should not go by the title of the movie as there is no other offensive word or abusive language used in the entire film," Kapur told reporters here Saturday.

"My family members have seen the movie. They found it very good and did not point out anything objectionable in it," said Kapur, who was in Chandigarh Saturday to promote the film.

`Kaminey`, which is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, is slated to release August 14. Priyanka Chopra plays the female lead role opposite Kapoor.

Kapoor added, "Our aim was to make a U/A certificate movie but when we got an `A` certificate our whole team was unhappy and could not understand the reason behind it."

There are reports that the censor board had advised Vishal Bhardwaj to cut some scenes and to make certain changes in `Kaminey` if he wanted an U/A certificate for the film.

The show was shot in Cape Town and will air on Colors in September.

Nauheed Cyrusi, best remembered as the "Piya basanti re" girl, says Akshay was a constant support system for her.

"I knew that Akshay Kumar, the big star, was going to host the show. I didn't know what to expect from him because I'd never met him before. But when I met him, he was so real. He helped me a great deal and was super approachable," said Nauheed.

"He was a complete support system for all of us there. In a task, the last few seconds are very crucial and it was then that he really encouraged each of us. He used to say 'Come on! Come on' and that was motivating," she added.

For Brazilian beauty Bruna Abdullah, who was seen in an item number in Anubhav Sinha's "Cash", Akshay was an inspiration.

"He (Akshay) was wonderful. He would do the stunts himself first and show us the safest way to perform them. He didn't let us give up on tasks easily at all and used to say that we won't ever get a chance to put ourselves through those stunts again," said Bruna, who Akshay teasingly referred to as 'Bru'.

"He was also extra sensitive to Rosa and me as we didn't understand much of Hindi. So he would go out of his way to clear our doubts," she added.

VJ and singer Anushka was also all praise for the 41-year-old actor.

"Akshay was really funny. He used to talk at random and eased out the most difficult tasks for us. He would tell us this is the best chance to do crazy things. At times, he would be serious and warn us if a certain task was tough. He would say 'This is not a laughing matter' to caution us," she said.

Said Shonali, a former supermodel: "Initially Akshay was very strict but gradually he became extremely supportive. He not only encouraged us but also helped us with strategies to strengthen our confidence levels. He always stood by us and gave us a pep talk whenever we were down. "That's because she speaks fluent Spanish. She had a Mexican boyfriend. So my eldest sister interacted with the local population in Marbella. All the sisters just stuck together having a ball with an invisible 'No Trespassers Allowed' board stuck to us," said Katrina.

Now back in London, Katrina wants to get back to Mumbai. "I'm not used to being fussed over. My mother is constantly inquiring about my food. That gets to me because basically I'm a loner," said the actress who turned 25 July 16.

Mahesh Bhatt is her uncle and director Mohit Suri her brother, but actress Smilie Suri will tell you she's still had her share of "waiting and struggle". And now four years after her debut in the hit "Kalyug", she once again waits for the curtain to rise.

"After the success of 'Kalyug', I wanted something better or at least as good as it. But I didn't get anything good enough. So it was not a conscious decision to wait...," Smilie told over phone from Mumbai.

"I would rather do fewer and good roles than just anything at all. People remember you for the roles you do. So I didn't want to go wrong with that. I kept getting the same kind of roles...something I wasn't interested in," she said.

The actress is now ready with her second film "Yeh Mera India", directed by N. Chandra and also starring Anupam Kher, Purab Kohli, Parveen Dabbas and Rajit Kapoor among others.

Smilie said the film, which is slated to hit screens Aug 28, is a story that every woman will relate to since it deals with male chauvinism.

"The film revolves around a period of 24 hours in Mumbai and how certain incidents in the day change my character's life. This is a story with which every girl and woman will relate, because one of the problems that my character faces in the film is male chauvinism," she said.

"Every girl at some point of time in her life either witnesses that (chauvinism) or has seen someone witness that. The story is basically how this girl stands up and doesn't become a victim to it," she said.

Asked what convinced her to take up the role, the young actress said: "My role in a film is very important to me. While in 'Kalyug' I played a simple, small-town girl who couldn't stand up against injustice and ends up ending her own life, in this film I play a girl who is strong and gets herself out of tough situations, while not becoming a victim.

"The two roles are quite different and so I decided to take it up. Although doing issue-based films was never a conscious decision, it just happened that both my films deal with issues," she said.

Smilie, who knows various dance forms like ballroom dancing, Kathak and jazz, always wanted to be in front of the camera, even though her brother is into direction and she worked as an assistant director in a few films.

So was it easy for her to enter the film industry as an actress?

"Even though I had people in the industry, it was a struggle for me to get my first acting assignment. I assisted on 'Zehar' and 'Murder'. One day went up to Mahesh Bhatt-saab at the shooting of 'Zehar' and told him I wanted to act. But he told me that he will not cast me till I don't suit a particular role and I don't learn the nuances of the industry," she said.

"He and my brother told me that I need to work hard and learn. So I had my share of waiting and struggle. But today I'm happy they did not give it to me on a platter. I have learnt a lot in the process. They did not spoon feed me, which was a good thing," she added.

Fox STAR Studios to distribute Shah Rukh's 'My Name Is Khan'

Actor-producer Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker Karan Johar have inked one of Bollywood's biggest deals with a Hollywood studio. Fox STAR Studios will finance and distribute their forthcoming film 'My Name Is Khan', reportedly spending Rs.100 crore (Rs.1 billion / $20 million) in the process.

Shah Rukh and Karan, who are co-producing the film, announced their tie-up with Fox STAR Studios, a joint venture between 20th Century Fox and STAR, at a press conference here Thursday.

'We are very happy that Fox STAR Studios is taking responsibility of a film of this stature that too in a different language, though we do speak a bit of English in the film as well. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to take Indian cinema further,' said Shah Rukh.

Though they didn't talk about the money, Fox STAR Studios have reportedly bought distribution rights for around Rs.100 crore for the film about a Muslim (Shah Rukh) who suffers from the Asperger syndrome, a form of autism that impacts social interaction abilities. He is arrested as a suspected terrorist in post-9/11 Los Angeles after authorities mistake his disability for suspicious behaviour.

Fox STAR Studios will market and distribute 'My Name Is Khan' in India, while its sister companies, Fox Searchlight Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox International, will distribute the movie in the US and other territories respectively.

Karan Johar is wielding the megaphone after three years to narrate the emotional journey of a Muslim man from India in the film, in which Shah Rukh has teamed up with Kajol. In the past, the two have starred in hits like 'Baazigar', 'Karan Arjun', 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge', 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' and 'Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham'.

Talking about the movie, Karan said: 'I'm almost petrified when it comes to making a movie with Shah Rukh and Kajol. Together, they have given iconic love movies and so they raise the level of expectations each time they are paired.

'This time it is again a love story but with a different treatment. It won't be like 'Dilwale Dulhania...' or 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', nor will it have songs shot in Egypt or Switzerland. But it will still leave a mark in the hearts of people.'

The partnership on 'My Name Is Khan' follows Fox STAR Studios' distribution deal with multiple Oscar-winning 'Slumdog Millionaire' in India earlier this year.

Tere Sang Movie review

Fifteen year old Mahi (Sheena) is going to be a mommy, and seventeen year old Kukoo aka Kabir (Ruslaan) a daddy. The central idea has been stolen from ‘Juno’, bittersweet indie Hollywood hit about teenage pregnancy and parenthood and responsibility. If only Satish Kaushik had retained more of the honesty of the original, ‘Tere Sang’ would have been a revolutionary Hindi film.

Even if the conception is less than immaculate, it’s lumped on too much champagne: it’s a starry night, the ‘kidults’ are in a camp, they get high and they do the thing – the camera stays decorously out of the tent, all we see are shadows merging. The same confusion colours the film: should it present the first pair of teenage Indian kids who have sex, with the girl pushing, and the boy pulling? Or should it soft-soap everything?

Kareena says No to Gurinder Chadha again

All the talk of an international career is just talk for Kareena. As far as she is concerned, she has no intentions of going international. Not even for Gurinder Chadha.Apparently, Aishwarya Rai who did Gurinder's 'Bride & Prejudice' and her husband Paul Berges's 'The Mistress Of Spices', won't work with her...not after Chadha apparently went around blaming Ash for the failure of her husband's film.

Gurinder has also shown keen interest in working with Rani Mukherjee. And of course Kareena who is not impressed. For the second time, she has said no to the 'Bend It Like Beckham' director.

Says a source, "Three years ago Gurinder wanted Kareena for Bride & Prejudice. Kareena naturally presumed it was the lead. She was shocked to know the director actually wanted her for Aishwarya's youngest sister's part which finally went to Piya Rai Chowdhary. Kareena was shocked. She had turned down the author-backed central role in Deepa Mehta's Water. And here she was being offered the fourth lead. She vowed never to work with her again."

Now when the new Gurinder Chadha film was offered to Kareena, she quickly said no without hesitation.

Kareena admits this is the second time she has turned down Gurinder Chadha. "Who offers a role is not important. What is being offered is important. I'm really not that enthused by the idea of going international unless it's something really big. I don't even know if Gurinder's offer was with Johnny Depp. I was just not interested."

Interestingly, all the 3 topnotch NRI filmmakers have had problems getting an Indian cast. Deepa Mehta's Water went through several casting changes. Mira Nair originally wanted Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee for The Namesake. But Rani didn't want to play Abhishek's mother. And Gurinder is looking for an Indian heroine.

Kareena, for all practical purposes, is not interested in an international career. Neither are Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan. They've all said no to lucrative international offers.

After playing the obedient, shy wife in 'Kasamh Se' on television & a smart, confident, loving spouse of Farhan Akhtar in the blockbuster film 'ROCK ON', actress Prachi Desai once again continues her coy Indian bahu image with upcoming Studio 18 release 'Life Partner'.Playing a demure Gujarati girl, in the film, Prachi gets married to Tusshar in the arranged way.

Though in the film her character very much believes in the concept of arranged marriages, but in real life Prachi holds different views about marriage. Contrary to her on-screen persona Prachi greatly believes in love marriage, ''I know love is blind & mistakes are bound to happen. But despite all the mistakes, I would always prefer for love marriage. Because I wouldn't want to blame my parents for any problems that may arise. I would rather love to be responsible for my own decisions.''

This Abbas-Mustan producetion which deals with the idea of what marriage is all about, Prachi gained lot of insights about marriage while working in the film. Says Prachi, ''After doing 'Life Partner' my views about marriage have changed completely. Now I know the basic issues & problems in a relationship and I feel so confident & mature enough to deal with it. And because of that I am going to be prepared and will always try to keep them away from myself.''

In her debut flick 'Teree Sang', she plays a 15-year-old girl who gets pregnant by her 17-year-old boyfriend (played by Ruslaan Mumtaz). This Satish Kaushik directed film comes with a message around teen pregnancy and has one of its major promotional pegs being sex education. As the film releases today, Sheena talks about her love for movies and how she bagged the role in 'Teree Sang' to turn out to be the chosen one.

One hears that she was always interested in Bollywood. With such inclination towards films, 'Teree Sang' wouldn't have been the first film that came her way. Sheena reveals, ''Actually years back I was also offered 'Shaka Laka Boom Boom' by Suneel Darshan but at that time I was still in the grooming process. Also, I would have looked very small in front of Upen Patel (Kangna eventually went on to play that part). See, for my very first film I had to be very careful. I had to give my 100% and not spoil the chance. Since my parents belong to the film world, I used to visit sets on a regular basis. Also, it is natural to have interaction with a lot of people from the film fraternity. It was but natural that I pick up a film that gives me all - a good role and a good banner.''

So she got that in the form of 'Teree Sang'.

''Actually even for 'Teree Sang' I didn't quite have to do running around or something; the film just happened as I was at the right place at the right time. At that time I was not giving auditions and was actually attending my school. I had gone to Satishji's office to collect some donation for my school. The minute he saw me, he asked me a plain and simple question - 'Would you want to work in movies?' So here I am standing in front of a man who has given break to so many stars and made some block buster films and I am being asked a question if I was interested? Then when he narrated the subject of 'Teree Sang', I just jumped from my chair. I knew I had to be a part of the film,'' Expounds Sheena on how she bagged Satish Kaushik's message driven 'Teree Sang'.
